Water and sanitation specialists are responsible for the water supply. Clean water is the basis of every medical provision. The separation of sewage from drinking water is essential for the prevention of many diseases. In addition to the construction of latrines, an appropriate waste disposal system is necessary. This is a priority after natural disasters, in situations concerning refugees, but also in reconstruction programmes.
Special requirements:
Relevant technical expertise and training (e.g. water management, water treatment).
Improvisational and mechanical skills.
Professional experience in developing countries.
Availability of at least six to nine months.

MSF provides efficient emergency medical aid, and accordingly places specific demands on our volunteers. In order to be able to meet certain challenges whilst on mission, a mixture of dedication, idealism and professionalism is essential.
The following requirements must be met:
Completed vocational training, with at least two years work experience (or a completed medical rotation)
Good understanding and fluency in English;
Knowledge of other languages - in particular French - is an asset.
At least six to twelve months availability for the first assignment (there is a minimum duration of four weeks for surgeons and anaesthetists, as well as for surgical nurses, while gynaecologists and obstetricians have a minimum stay of three months).
Flexibility, organisational and improvisational skills.
Ability to supervise and train others.
Ability to work well in a team, as well as a strong resilience to physical and psychological pressures and strains.
Experience living abroad (either in a professional or private capacity).
Readiness to work in the spirit of the humanitarian principles of MSF.
For general practitioners and nursing personnel: tropical medicine curse or relevant practical expierience in tropical medicine, public health, epidemiology and/or HIV/TB.
MSF was founded as a volunteer organization and would like to remain that way. However, it is very important to us to make a minimum package available to our volunteers during their mission.
This includes the following:
Payment of vaccination and visa costs during preparation for the mission
Payment of costs for travel, living expenses, accommodation and meals during employment
Employment contract with a gross salary of currently approx. EUR 1.000 / month within the first 12 months
Insurance package (health, disability, travel, luggage, accident, and return to home country insurance)
Preparation course, such as further training courses for volunteers after the first mission
